| Descrizione del dritto | The tughra of Sultan Mehmed VI occupies the central field, rendered in elaborate calligraphic style with characteristic upward projecting shafts and looping oval body. The tughra is surrounded by a decorative scalloped inner border composed of alternating crescent and arc motifs, interspersed with six-pointed stars and small floral ornaments. The regnal year appears in Arabic numerals below the tughra, and the denomination is indicated within the lower portion of the design. The entire composition is enclosed by a beaded outer border. |

Mehmed VI ascended to the Ottoman throne in July 1918 — less than four months before the Armistice of Mudros ended the empire's participation in World War I. These coins were struck as the empire was effectively dissolving around its new sultan, with Allied occupation forces entering Constantinople in November 1918. The mint continued operating through the chaos largely because the occupying powers had no immediate interest in disrupting the currency supply.
Mehmed VI was the last reigning Ottoman sultan, deposed by the Grand National Assembly in November 1922 and exiled on a British warship.
