Reverse description Two Dalmatian dogs are depicted in a naturalistic composition: a standing adult dog facing right occupies the upper portion of the field, while a recumbent puppy is shown in the foreground, both rendered in fine relief with their characteristic spotted coats against a textured background suggestive of a stone quay with a coastal landscape. The legend DALMATINSKI arcs along the upper left rim and PAS appears to the upper right, with the date 2021 inscribed along the lower left. The Latin binomial CANIS DALMATICUS is engraved in a prominent sans-serif legend across the lower field.

Additional information

Issued by the Croatian National Bank in 2021, this piece belongs to a long-running series celebrating indigenous Croatian breeds — a program that has run since the mid-1990s and reflects a deliberate institutional policy of promoting national cultural identity through commemorative coinage. The Dalmatian, despite its global recognition, was not formally documented as a Croatian breed by the FCI until 1994, a classification Croatia lobbied for persistently following independence.

At 155.5 grams and 60 mm, these large-format silver issues were struck in limited quantities and sold directly through the HNB. Croatia's adoption of the euro in January 2023 ended the kuna entirely, making all late-period kuna commemoratives denominated currency of an extinct monetary system.
