Issued to mark the 50th wedding anniversary of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, who married on June 10, 1967. Henrik, born Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat, was a French diplomat and minor nobleman whose proposal Margrethe initially declined before accepting — a courtship detail that drew considerable press at the time. The marriage produced two sons, Frederik and Joachim, both of whom appear in the royal succession.
Prince Henrik died in February 2018, less than a year after this coin was struck.
