Issued to mark the June 1995 marriage of Prince Joachim to Alexandra Manley, a Hong Kong-born commoner whose arrival in the Danish royal family generated considerable public enthusiasm. It was the first Danish royal wedding commemorative struck in aluminium bronze rather than silver, a deliberate move by the Nationalbank to produce a coin accessible enough for general circulation rather than collector sets alone. The piece entered everyday commerce and worn examples are accordingly common.
