Frederik X acceded to the Danish throne on 14 January 2024, the day his mother Margrethe II made good on her surprise abdication announcement — delivered, unusually, during her New Year's Eve television address. It was the first Danish abdication in modern history. This coin entered circulation almost immediately, making it one of the faster commemorative responses to a succession event in recent Scandinavian minting history.
