附加信息

Frederik VIII ascended the Danish throne in 1906 at age 62, having waited longer than almost any modern European heir before his reign finally began. His five-year rule was cut short by his death in Hamburg in 1912 — he died in a hotel under an assumed name, apparently to avoid diplomatic ceremony while traveling. The gold 20 Kroner issue spans nearly his entire reign, making it one of the shorter-run royal portrait series in Danish numismatics.

Denmark's gold coinage of this period was tied to the Scandinavian Monetary Union, which pegged the Danish krone to the Swedish and Norwegian currencies at a fixed gold rate from 1873 onward. The union held until World War I suspended convertibility.
