| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the shield of Kaufbeuren, divided per pale, with a displayed eagle to the left and a diagonally hatched bend to the right, adorned with six-pointed stars above and below; the date 15[52] appears flanking the lower portion of the shield. The design is executed in the vigorous late-Gothic hammered style typical of South German civic coinage. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by the circular Latin legend reading MON . NO . CIVITATIS . KAVFBEIRN., denoting this as the new coinage of the city of Kaufbeuren. |
