Obverse description Draped bust of William IX facing right, depicting the young Landgrave with flowing curled hair tied with a ribbon at the nape, rendered in a refined late Baroque portrait style. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. A circular legend in Latin runs along the beaded border, identifying the ruler by name and titles. A small star device appears at the base of the bust in the lower field.
