Obverse description Central crowned lion rampant shield of Hesse, surrounded by a rosette arrangement of six smaller escutcheons bearing the arms of the landgraviate's constituent territories, all enclosed within a beaded border. The legend reading the fineness standard encircles the composite arms, distributed around the periphery of the field. The crown above the central shield is elaborately rendered in high relief, consistent with mid-18th-century German baroque die-engraving practice.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description The denomination expressed in Roman numerals 'XX' flanked by floral ornaments occupies the upper field, followed by the legend 'KREUZER NACH DEM CONVENTIONS FUS' inscribed in four lines across the center of the coin, denoting conformity to the Conventions Monetary Standard of 1753. The date 1766 appears below, flanked by rosette stops, with the mint officials' initials 'GCF' and 'PB' separated by a dot in the exergue. The entire design is contained within a beaded border.
