Obverse description Draped bust of Emperor Franz I of Austria facing right, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail characteristic of the Vienna Mint's early nineteenth-century coinage. A ribbon is tied at the neck and falls forward across the chest. The legend FRANCISCVS I D G AVST IMPERATOR encircles the effigy, commencing at approximately 7 o'clock. The mint mark appears in the field beneath the bust.

Reverse description Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle displayed at center, clutching a sword and sceptre in its talons and an orb below, with a shield on the breast bearing the quartered arms of Habsburg, Austria, and Lorraine, encircled by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The denomination XX KR appears in the exergue below the eagle. The encircling legend, commencing at 1 o'clock, records the emperor's titles as King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, and Illyria, with the date 1831 and mint mark incorporated into the reverse field.
