Christian Frederick Charles Alexander — the last Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach — issued this coin just six years before his extraordinary abdication. In 1791, facing mounting debts and with no legitimate heir, he sold the entire Margraviate outright to Prussia for a lifetime annuity, becoming the only German prince of the period to voluntarily liquidate his territory as a personal financial transaction. He then retired to England with his mistress, Lady Craven, whom he promptly married.
Neustadt an der Aisch served as a secondary mint for the Ansbach coinage in this period, distinguished from the Schwabach output by the Desel/Döle reference rather than the primary KM sequence alone.
