Obwalden was among the smallest of the Swiss Forest Cantons, and its independent coinage issues were correspondingly limited in both volume and duration. This 20 Kreuzer type was struck across a politically quiet stretch of the early eighteenth century — Obwalden produced no significant silver coinage before or after this series for generations, making the type an isolated chapter in cantonal monetary history.
HMZ documentation for this issue is sparse on mintage figures, which is unsurprising given the canton's modest financial infrastructure. Examples in any condition are infrequently encountered outside Swiss regional sales.
