Obverse description The arms of Bern — a bear passant on a diagonal-striped shield — displayed within an ornate baroque cartouche flanked by laurel and floral branches. The circular legend reads BERNENSIS REIPVBLICÆ around the periphery, with the denomination CR 20 in the lower field below the cartouche. The rim is decorated with a fine beaded border.

Reverse description A bear seated to the right in high relief, holding an open scroll cartouche inscribed with the legend MONETA NOVA and the date 1706. A winged figure or bird appears at the top of the scroll. Below the bear, in the exergue, a floral and foliate branch is rendered in relief. The rim is beaded.
