Beda Angehrn served as Prince-Abbot of Saint Gall from 1767 until the abbey's dissolution in 1805, presiding over one of the wealthiest ecclesiastical territories in the Swiss Confederation during its final decades of independence. The abbey exercised minting rights as a sovereign imperial institution, a privilege it had held intermittently since the medieval period. These 20 Kreuzer pieces, struck across a narrow three-year window in the early 1780s, belong to the last sustained coinage the abbey would produce before revolutionary pressure from France and internal Swiss politics brought the entire institution to an end.
