Reverse description Truncated draped bust of Dr. Jozef Tiso facing right, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The subject is depicted in clerical attire with a buttoned collar. A circular legend surrounds the bust, reading 'DR. JOZEF TISO · PRVÝ PREZIDENT SLOVENSKEJ REPUBLIKY · 26.X.1939 ·', with the date referencing his inauguration as President of the Slovak Republic. A small engraver's mark appears at the lower left of the bust. A beaded border frames the entire design.

Additional information

This piece commemorates Jozef Tiso, the Catholic priest who served as president of the Slovak Republic from 1939 to 1945 — a Nazi client state whose government actively collaborated in the deportation of over 70,000 Slovak Jews to German extermination camps. Tiso was executed for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Bratislava in April 1947.

Its 2002 issue by the Slovak Mint provoked immediate controversy, as critics argued the state was effectively commemorating a convicted war criminal. The edition was not withdrawn.
