Mosonvármegye — the western Hungarian county known in German as Wieselburg — issued these emergency korona notes in 1919 during the chaotic interregnum between the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy and the consolidation of the Hungarian state. The Direktorium, a short-lived administrative council, authorized local printing through Finkelstein Oszkár's press in Magyaróvár rather than wait for currency from Budapest, which was itself in political freefall under the Hungarian Soviet Republic.
The sole security measure was an official administrative stamp — a thin barrier against forgery, though the brevity of this note's useful life likely made counterfeiting more trouble than it was worth.
