This note belongs to the brief but chaotic wave of locally issued emergency currency — szükségpénz — that proliferated across Hungary in 1919 as the postwar collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system left branches of commercial banks struggling to maintain basic transactional liquidity. Magyar Általános Hitelbank was one of Hungary's most prominent joint-stock banks, but authority here devolved to the Győr branch specifically, which is what makes this note locally accountable rather than centrally guaranteed.
The ink stamp is the only authentication mechanism — typical of the improvisation forced on issuers who had no access to formal security printing on short notice.
