| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the Imperial Russian double-headed eagle displayed, each head crowned with a small imperial crown, surmounted by a large central imperial crown topped with a cross. The eagle's breast bears an escutcheon depicting St. George on horseback slaying the dragon. The right talon holds an orb and the left talon a sceptre. The wings are elaborately detailed and bear six subsidiary shields depicting the arms of various Russian territories. Mint engraver's initials 'Ф Б' appear in the lower field beneath the eagle's tail, flanking the decorative scroll. The whole is encircled by a fine toothed border. |
