The convertible mark was introduced in 1998 under the Dayton Agreement's monetary provisions, pegged at parity to the Deutsche Mark and — after 2002 — fixed to the euro at 1.95583 KM, a rate the Central Bank is legally prohibited from altering. Bosnia's currency board arrangement means the central bank cannot conduct monetary policy in any conventional sense; every mark in circulation must be backed by euro reserves. That constraint is baked into the institution's founding statute, not merely adopted by convention.
Oberthur Fiduciaire's Chantepie facility has handled the series since its inception. P#83 represents the most recent redesign cycle, incorporating updated security elements while retaining the established visual grammar of the series.
