| Opmerkingen |
The 1979 series marked the first major banknote issue by the Bank of the Lao PDR following the abolition of the Royal Lao kip and the short-lived Pathet Lao liberation kip. A monetary unification was carried out in December 1979, replacing the two-currency system that had persisted after the communist takeover of 1975 at a rate designed to disadvantage those who had held larger reserves of the old currency.
The extended date range through 1988 reflects continued use of the same printing plates across nearly a decade rather than multiple distinct issues — not unusual for the early PDR period, when new note production was infrequent and printing contracts limited.
