Reverse description The reverse presents a stylized cartographic composition in which the central field depicts the entrance gate of the palace ensemble of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi set against a relief map of the region. Radiating arrows encircling the design symbolize the advancing Soviet troop movements and the encirclement of Axis forces during the battle. Along the upper right rim appears the inscription 70 РОКІВ (70 Years), while the lower arc bears the bow-shaped legend КОРСУНЬ-ШЕВЧЕНКІВСЬКА БИТВА (Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi Battle).

Additional information

Issued on the 70th anniversary of the Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi Offensive, one of the more tactically decisive operations of the Eastern Front's winter of 1944. Soviet forces under Konev and Vatutin encircled roughly 60,000 German troops of Army Group South in what the Wehrmacht called the Cherkassy Pocket. The breakout attempt in February cost catastrophic losses — German accounts claim 35,000 escaped; Soviet records dispute that figure sharply.

The coin appeared in Ukrainian shops the same year Russia annexed Crimea, lending an unintended edge to a commemorative otherwise treated as routine military history.
