Ukraine has issued gold Archangel Michael coins continuously since 2003, making this one of the longer-running bullion series from a post-Soviet mint. The 7.78g weight corresponds to a quarter-troy-ounce equivalent, a format the NBU adopted deliberately to align with internationally traded fractional gold standards and broaden export appeal. Kyiv's mint continued striking the series through the full-scale Russian invasion years without interruption — a pointed institutional decision given that Michael is also the patron saint of Kyiv itself.
