Reverse description The reverse reproduces the design of the circulating 20 hryvnia banknote, depicting a detailed architectural rendering of the Lviv Opera House (Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet), constructed in 1900 to plans by architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski. The grand Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque façade of the theatre is presented in fine engraved detail, occupying the central field. The denomination '20 ГРИВЕНЬ' and the written form 'Двадцять гривень' appear within the design, alongside the inscription 'Львівський оперний театр' identifying the depicted building. The year of issue '2018' and the numeral '20' are also present within the composition.

Additional information

The 2018 redesign of Ukrainian banknotes was part of a broader NBU security overhaul that followed the 2014–2015 currency crisis, during which the hryvnia lost roughly 70% of its value against the dollar. Striking the 20 hryvnia as a silver bullion piece in that political climate carried an unmistakable irony — a coin worth multiples of the note it replicates, issued by the same institution that presided over the collapse.

At 124.4 g of .999 silver, this is a four-troy-ounce piece — a format the NBU has used for several banknote-replica issues in this series.
