| Opmerkingen |
Würnsdorf's 20 Heller notgeld is a product of the severe coin shortage that gripped rural Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Municipal and market authorities across the country filled the vacuum left by the retreating imperial coinage, printing their own small-denomination paper in quantities just large enough to keep local trade moving.
Marktgemeinde-issued pieces like this one were typically redeemed within months and rarely left the issuing district, which accounts for the relatively low survival rate of circulated examples.
