| 表面の説明 | Green guilloche underprint on cream paper. The denomination numeral '20' appears in circular vignettes at upper left and upper right. At the top, the issuer name 'Windischgarsten' is inscribed in Gothic blackletter script beneath the heading 'Gutscheine der Marktgemeinde'. The central legend 'Zwanzig Heller' is rendered in large Gothic script, below which a three-line liability clause in German text states the market town's obligation to redeem the note in legal currency. The date '1920' is printed in a decorative frame at the lower centre, flanked by an anti-counterfeiting warning at lower left and the Bürgermeister's facsimile signature at lower right. |

Windischgarsten is a small spa town in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — to fill the vacuum left by the postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. The central authorities simply could not produce enough low-denomination coinage to meet everyday needs, so towns printed their own.
The Jaksc catalog reference places this squarely within the documented Upper Austrian municipal series. Windischgarsten issues are not among the rarer Notgeld pieces, but survival in anything above circulated condition is inconsistent — these were handled daily in a small local economy before being withdrawn when federal coinage restabilized.
