Wimpassing an der Pielach is a small Lower Austrian village on the Pielach river, and this 20 Heller note is a Notgeld issue — emergency small-change scrip produced by Austrian municipalities during the coin shortage that followed the First World War. Thousands of such pieces were issued by communities across Austria between roughly 1916 and 1921, ranging from major towns to parishes of a few hundred souls. Three municipal signatories — Bürgermeister, Vizebürgermeister, and Gemeindekassier — was the standard authorization structure required to give these notes local legal standing.
