Opmerkingen

Vienna's postwar municipal emergency money — Notgeld — emerged from a near-total collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation. By 1919, the old Austro-Hungarian coins had been hoarded, melted, or simply vanished, and the new Austrian state was in no position to mint replacements fast enough. Stadtgemeinde Wien stepped in as one of hundreds of Austrian municipalities doing the same thing, issuing fractional paper to keep daily commerce functional.

The JPR1183d designation places this within a documented series variant. Wien's Notgeld issues were produced locally and redeemable only within city jurisdiction — a built-in expiration on their usefulness that most holders understood perfectly well.
