Klemens Brosch was one of the more accomplished graphic artists working in Upper Austria in the early twentieth century, and his involvement here — as both designer and printer — is the sole reason this otherwise obscure municipal Notgeld note attracts collector attention. Weitersfelden is a small market town in the Mühlviertel; it would have issued these fractional Heller notes in 1920 to address the acute small-change shortage that plagued Austrian communities in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg economy.
Brosch died in 1926, still relatively young, and his Notgeld commissions from this period are treated as collectible graphic art as much as currency.
