Weinzierl bei Perg is a small rural commune in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is precisely the kind of hyper-local emergency currency — Notgeld — that Austrian municipalities printed in enormous variety between 1919 and 1921 to address the chronic small-change shortage left by wartime metal requisitioning. Jos. Feichtingers Erben in Linz handled a large share of Upper Austrian municipal Notgeld printing during this period, making them the regional workhorse of the genre.
Three signatories authenticated this issue: the Bürgermeister Schützenhofer, his deputy Eichinger, and a Gemeinderat member, Alois Froschauer — an unusually full civic quorum for a denomination worth less than a cup of coffee.
