The heading 'WACHAUER NOTGELD.' and sub-legend 'GUTSCHEIN DER GEMEINDE SPITZ AN DER DONAU.' appear in large Gothic capitals at the top, flanked by the numeral '20' at each side. Part of the remarkable Notgeld wave that swept rural Austria in the early 1920s, this note was issued by the market municipality of Spitz an der Donau when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce. The Wachau region produced some of the most artistically ambitious emergency currency in the Austrian corpus, with local communities commissioning genuine designers rather than relying on printers' stock templates — Liesl Kinzel's involvement here is characteristic of that approach.
Eduard Sieger in Vienna handled a substantial volume of provincial Notgeld printing during this period. The IIc suffix in the Jaksch/Pick reference indicates a specific paper or printing variant within the type, worth distinguishing from superficially identical impressions.
