Opmerkingen

Viehofen is a small village in Lower Austria, and this 20 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy and the disruption of normal monetary supply to rural communities. Thousands of municipalities issued their own emergency small-denomination notes during this period, and the Jaksch-Pick catalog documents hundreds of Lower Austrian examples alone.

The Viehofen issue is among the more obscure entries in that catalog, with no known printer attribution and very limited documentation of original circulation quantities.
