Stattersdorf was a small industrial settlement on the outskirts of St. Pölten in Lower Austria — it would later be absorbed into St. Pölten proper. This 20 Heller note is a Notgeld issue, one of thousands of municipal emergency notes that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 when coin shortages made small change effectively impossible to obtain. The three signatories — two Gemeinderäte and the Bürgermeister — signed by hand or stamp in their official capacity, giving the scrip its legal standing within the commune.
At 20 Heller, this sits at the lower end of the practical denomination range for Austrian Notgeld.
