Die Marktgemeinde St. Wolfgang
ATW. v. K. REISENBICHLER
DRUCK G. WESEL / SALZBURG
Reverse description The reverse carries a colourful letterpress vignette of the pilgrimage church of Sankt Wolfgang am Abersee, rendered in an Expressionist illustrative style with stylised golden clouds against a pale sky, the church tower and nave set above a rocky lakeside embankment with surrounding townhouses. Below the vignette, a text panel in Gothic script states the redemption terms and validity date, flanked by the large denomination numeral '20' on each side above the inscription 'Heller'. A facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister appears within the text panel, with the printer's imprint and designer's credit in red at the lower corners.

One of hundreds of Austrian Notgeld issues from the early 1920s, this 20 Heller piece from the lakeside resort town of St. Wolfgang is notable primarily as a local printing: Kiesel's Salzburg press handled a number of Salzkammergut municipal issues during this period, giving the regional series a degree of visual and material consistency unusual among emergency coinage substitutes.

Reisenbichler's involvement places this among the more deliberately designed examples — St. Wolfgang attracted artists and was already a recognized tourist destination before the currency collapse made small-denomination paper a necessity.
