St. Lorenz am Mondsee is a small market town on the western shore of the Mondsee in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities it was forced to issue its own emergency small change — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage of the First World War and immediate postwar years. These local issues filled a gap the central authorities could not or would not address quickly enough.
Gerstenbrand's involvement places this among the more artistically considered village issues of the period. The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0904b designates the 20 Heller denomination within the St. Lorenz series.
