Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a finely detailed intaglio vignette of thistle and acanthus foliage rendered in steel-blue tones across the full field. To the lower left, the denomination numeral '20' is printed in gold. At right, a shield-shaped cartouche with a decorative gilt border contains the issuer and series inscription in stylised green lettering. The monogram 'K.B.' and the year '1920' appear in the upper right corner.

Reverse description The reverse mirrors the obverse layout with the same steel-blue intaglio botanical vignette of thistle and acanthus foliage filling the left portion of the note, and the denomination numeral '20' in gold at lower left. In place of the text cartouche, a shield-shaped vignette at right contains a green-printed landscape scene of a river or stream with rocky banks, trees, and a solitary figure, executed in fine letterpress. The monogram 'K.B.' and date '1920' are again visible in the upper right corner.

Sankt Georgen an der Gusen is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is one of the thousands of Austrian Notgeld issues that proliferated between 1919 and 1921 when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply never restruck in sufficient quantities after the war. Municipal and commercial issuers across the former Habsburg territories filled the gap themselves.

The designer credit "K.B." remains unidentified in standard Notgeld references. Local amateur artists and schoolteachers provided many such designs; attribution is rarely recoverable.
