Opmerkingen

St. Georgen an der Gusen is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is one of the thousands of Notgeld issues that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 when small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipal and local authorities scrambling to fill the gap, and Marktgemeinde St. Georgen an der Gusen did exactly what hundreds of comparable communities did: issued its own emergency paper.

The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0886I-20 places this within the broader Upper Austrian municipal series. Collector demand for these regional Austrian Notgeld issues has historically been driven more by locality than by rarity.
