Sittendorf is a small village in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities during the First World War, it was forced to issue its own emergency small-change notes — Notgeld — when the imperial government failed to maintain adequate coin circulation. The Heller denominations effectively vanished from everyday commerce after 1914, and local bodies filled the gap themselves. F. Seitenberg, operating out of Vienna's third district, was one of several small commercial printers who took on this municipal work.
The JPR1001c designation within the Jaksc catalog indicates this is one of multiple variants within the Sittendorf series — differences typically involving paper stock, color shade, or overprint details rather than substantive design changes.
