20 Heller Sigmundsherberg; PoW Camp

Sigmundsherberg, a large Austro-Hungarian prisoner-of-war camp in Lower Austria, operated one of the more organized internal scrip systems of the First World War. The Offiziersabteilung — the officers' section — issued its own denominations separately from enlisted men's scrip, a deliberate administrative division that reflected the Geneva Convention distinctions in how officer prisoners were housed, fed, and compensated.

Campbell 1450 is among the lower denominations in the Sigmundsherberg officer series. Camp scrip of this type was rendered worthless at repatriation and most was discarded, which keeps surviving pieces genuinely scarce.
