Schönau notgeld from 1920 falls squarely within the second wave of Austrian emergency municipal coinage — by this point the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system had left small towns across Upper Austria essentially writing their own monetary policy in denominations nobody outside the village would accept. Three signatories is unusually high for a Heller note at this level; most comparable Gemeinde issues carried one or two authorizing signatures, and the presence of Wiesbauer, Ameshofer, and Berger likely reflects a local requirement for collective fiscal oversight rather than any printing technicality.
