Reverse description Printed in ochre-gold on cream paper, the reverse is enclosed within an ornate Art Nouveau border of flowing scrollwork. The central text block sets out the conditions of issue — that the Municipality of Leonding issues vouchers totalling 35,000 Kronen to alleviate the shortage of small change, that the notes bear no interest, and that the redemption date will be announced four weeks in advance — followed by three manuscript signatures of municipal officials and the designer's name at the lower centre.

Leonding was a small rural commune outside Linz, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities it issued its own small-denomination Notgeld during the severe coin shortage that followed the First World War. The 20 Heller denomination was among the lowest in common circulation, intended purely to replace the hoarded bronze and nickel coinage that had effectively disappeared from everyday trade by 1919–1920.

Hans Wunder designed several Austrian municipal Notgeld issues during this period. Whether this piece was locally printed or sent to a regional press is not confirmed in surviving records.
