Eferding's 1920 Heller notes belong to the enormous wave of Austrian municipal notgeld that flooded the country after the collapse of the Habsburg economy left small change almost entirely absent from circulation. The Stadtgemeinde issued these as a local stopgap, with Zanghammer in Linz handling the printing — a regional firm that produced notgeld for numerous Upper Austrian communities during this period, which means the presswork is competent but unsentimental.

The "large issue" designation distinguishes this from a smaller-format series issued by the same municipality, a distinction that matters for completeness collectors working the Upper Austrian municipal sequence.
