Austrian Notgeld of this period requires some precision about what it actually was: emergency small-change scrip issued by municipalities after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire left ordinary commerce starved of metal coinage. Langenstein, a small Upper Austrian village, was among hundreds of communities that printed their own fractional notes between 1919 and 1921 to cover the gap. The 20 Heller denomination targets the most workaday transactions — tram fares, bread, small market purchases.
Langenstein's issues are minor within the Notgeld collector universe, with no documented printing curiosities or significant variants recorded. These circulated locally and briefly.
