Langenlois is a wine-producing market town in Lower Austria's Kamptal region, and its 1920 Heller notgeld issue belongs to the enormous wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Austria after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left smaller communities chronically short of small change. The Marktgemeinde printed locally, as many comparable towns did, keeping costs down and turnaround fast.

Heller denominations were already becoming economically marginal by 1920 — the inflation that would accelerate through the early 1920s would render this note worthless within a few years of issue.
