20 Heller Krungl

Mitterndorf's 20 Heller Notgeld was part of the vast Austrian municipal emergency currency wave that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy — towns and communes issued their own small-denomination paper simply because coins had vanished from circulation entirely, hoarded or melted down. Paul Gerin of Vienna's second district was one of the more prolific printers of this genre, producing issues for dozens of Styrian and Upper Austrian communities during the same period.
