Opmerkingen

Kirchberg am Wagram is a small market town in Lower Austria's wine country, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it issued its own Notgeld during the postwar currency chaos of 1920 — a period when the new Austrian republic was hemorrhaging value and small coin had effectively vanished from everyday commerce. These local emergency issues filled the fractional gap that the central authorities couldn't.

Curt Sauer's involvement is notable: he was among the more prolific designers of Lower Austrian Notgeld series, and his commissions often show deliberate regional character rather than the generic ornamental work common to the period.
