Hüttau is a small village in the Salzburg uplands, and its 1920 Heller notes belong to the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued when small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation during and after the First World War. Municipal authorities across Austria — including the most obscure rural communes — were left with no practical alternative but to print their own fractional scrip. R.
