Göttweig Abbey issued its own notgeld in 1920 not through the monastery itself but through the Kellerstube — the abbey's tavern and wine cellar operation — which functioned as a semi-commercial hospitality establishment. The issuer designation is unusual enough to distinguish this from the hundreds of routine Austrian municipal emergency notes of the same period.

Printed by Buchdruckerei Herzogenburg, a local press in the nearby Lower Austrian town of the same name, the production is modest small-town work rather than the elaborate collector-targeted series that dominated Austrian notgeld output by 1920.
