Gaming is a small market town in Lower Austria, better known today for its Carthusian monastery than for its wartime scrip. This 20 Heller note is part of the Austrian Notgeld wave — the municipal emergency currency issued across thousands of towns between roughly 1919 and 1922 to address the chronic small-change shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. The designer credit to Perko is locally specific; this is not a stock design farmed out by a central printer but something commissioned at the municipal level.
The JPR0220b designation suggests at least one variant exists within the series — likely a color or paper difference.
