Comments

One of thousands of Austrian municipal notgeld issues produced in the years following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy, when small communities found themselves without sufficient coin for everyday transactions. Fuschl am See — a lakeside village in the Salzkammergut — issued this 20 Heller through the Gemeinde rather than any banking authority, signed by the mayor and his deputy as the locally accountable guarantors. The printer Z. J. Kral was a Viennese firm that handled a significant volume of these small-denomination municipal issues during 1919–1920.
