备注

Furth bei Göttweig is a small market town in Lower Austria, and this note is a product of the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria in the aftermath of World War One. Municipal and commercial Notgeld of this type filled the gap left by the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system — small denominations in particular simply vanished from circulation as metal coinage became hoarded or melted. Josef Faber in nearby Krems was a logical choice for local printing commissions of this kind.

Otto Stoitzner, who designed this note, was a Vienna-trained artist with ties to the Austrian applied arts movement. His involvement in provincial Notgeld was not unusual for the period — the genre attracted serious designers.
